3rd Domain: Vertical Integration

Bonus Part 3 Science Chat-see timestamps below the video:

Here is the beginning of the class where Crockett is giving an overview on integrating the nervous system including input from the body and different brain regions:

(New here? Be sure to check out the 1st2nd and 4th Domains as this post covers the 3rd in a series on 9 Domains.)

Below is the official 75 minute Part 1 class, email HeidiCrockett at gmail.com for payment/questions:

Part 2 Preview (refer to the above slide as you watch the video):

The above preview is 5 minutes from Part 2 where Crockett gives an idea to help calm down stress. She suggests that you ask yourself your stress’s function.

1. Am I being threatened and do I need to find immediate safety? (Red Dot Threat System)

2. Am I needing to do something? (Blue Dot Drive system)

3. Am I needing some kind soothing? (And if I do need this, can I give this to myself in a healthy way?) (Green Dot Soothing System)

TEACHING: These 3 systems use different aspects of the nervous system and while all 3 are important, it’s most important to be able to consciously choose which system to use depending on the function of the feeling.

She then goes into the neuroscience behind the importance of kindness and how oxytocin is required for neuroplasticity to occur. (The demonstration in the Part 2 Vertical Integration class demonstrates these principles in much greater detail.)

Above is the 97 min Part 2 video for Vertical Integration.

(For those who purchased: Crockett recommends that you watch the Part 2 demonstration starting at min 23:43 to min 55 and then watch the rest of the video, and then watch Part 1 and the first 20 min of Part 2.)

For those interested in learning about the series, Crockett presented on the 2nd Domain Bilateral Integration and the 1st Domain Consciousness in prior classes.

Today’s class reviewed the importance of the prefrontal cortex to help you achieve vertical integration (how your nervous system manages stress). We also discussed important strategies to strengthen your brain fitness in this domain and next Thursday’s class will cover the interventions not discussed today and will be interactive. Please join!

The above 4 slides show the prefrontal cortex’s functions, how it is the pilot of your life, and how it helps a person have wide windows of tolerance for arousal (see the stress curve slide for an explanation of arousal or emotional intensity).

See the above Class Overview slide for a description of what today’s class covered. Besides the Part 1 and Part 2 in this course, there is a Part 3 Science Chat. Purchase the course for $49, email HeidiCrockett at gmail.com for questions.
