A CORE class explaining how to rewire shame using fear modulation (to unlearn a fear). This class is total 90 minutes long and besides the 30 min recording includes an additional 60 min video called “melting shame.” The official title is “Fear Modulation: Learning to go from critical voice to kind voice” and this class along with my “Wizard vs Lizard Brain” are ones that my counseling clients usually first watch.

5. vimeo.com/686851435 The wizard brain skill of insight and how it originates from attachment in childhood
6. vimeo.com/692477147 The wizard brain skill of empathy but expanded definition with an empathy energy experience from guest speaker
7. vimeo.com/699631930 The wizard brain skill of morality ***BEST overview of the whole series

(A fantastic 15 min section is to start at min 34. Live demonstration of an audience member gaining emotional balance then detailed PowerPoint explanation.)

10. vimeo.com/714644105 The wizard brain skill of body regulation. Possibly the best HACK out of the 9 functions to most quickly jump start your brain from lizard to wizard!

11. https://vimeo.com/718842175 The FINALE reviewing all 9 and explaining more nuanced details, also very good to watch for an overview of all 9 functions

ATTUNEMENT or ATTUNED COMMUNICATION

3. vimeo.com/676037018 The wizard brain skill of attuned communication

Each “Wizard’s Unite Discussion Group” builds on the former group themes and also serves as a STAND ALONE educational video. The 1st Group defined “mind” and the end goal of monitoring and modifying the mind for a happier life, (vimeo.com/665766613 ). The 2nd Group defined “response flexibility” as one of 9 wizard brain functions, (vimeo.com/670875724). This group focuses on “attuned communication,” another 1 of 9 functions of the wizard brain (see 9 functions chart here: greenlightheidi.com/2019/08/core-ipnb-charts/). Another way to say this is that we focused on how kindness, that is giving and receiving the ACTION OF CARE particularly through words, wires the brain up optimally. The above video starts with
0:08 FACES flow results when our brains reach a higher level of integration
0:35 Opposite of that is the riverbanks of RIGIDITY (hypoarousal) or CHAOS (hyperarousal) which are signs that we are at a lower level of integration
0:48 The purpose of the group is to notice our autonomic nervous system state (physiological state,) and the idea that “state creates story”. That is, the story we are telling ourselves right now will reflect our state. One way we can become happier with our attention is to recognize when we are more sleep-deprived, which means that we have a lower amount of overall fuel in our system, (are more likely to get grumpy and have those rigidity or chaotic moments because we can’t access that more response flexibility from the wizard brain and instead are more lizard brain, judging and catastrophizing and all or nothing or black white thinking).

4. The wizard brain skill of fear modulation* vimeo.com/681602551

*A CORE class explaining how to rewire shame using wizard brain skill of fear modulation (to unlearn a fear)

Overview:

This class reviews the “Melting Shame” class concept of using kind voice to calm yourself down and getting more response flexibility, emotion regulation, and body regulation, that is, getting more wizard brain functions (see 9 functions of the prefrontal cortex chart). Heidi begins by explaining what happens when a person feels shame, that they will be evoking what is called the “default mode network,” also called mind wandering or negativity bias. Understanding this can help a person feel more hopeful and take the experience of shame away from it feeling deeply personal and instead put it in a zone where we can think of it as evoking a specific state that isn’t helpful. She demos kind voice with one audience member as she explains feeling shame when she brings up constructive criticism. Heidi explains how your mind is both embodied and relational, so in that moment when offering constructive feedback if the receiver is feeling criticized, they themselves could go into more lizard-y states that will naturally evoke your own lizard in response. She says it is called “interpersonal resonance” and sometimes referred to as “2pn” (two person neuroscience,) the states that happen when two people attune. She lets the audience member know that part of what we want to do isn’t to pathologize the various autonomic nervous system states that our attention normally travels between, but instead to recognize the state we’re in and acknowledge that we CAN do things to get ourselves in a better state ONCE we have the time and space to try something to help like kind voice.

Class #4 on fear modulation teaches the science of shame, when we feel shame the “default mode network” (lizard brain) is lighting up. There is a cycle involved with excessive self-criticism, to onboard the wizard brain use kind voice instead.

NOTE: The next Class #5 insight, Class #6 empathy, and Class #7 morality cover “mindsight” which is a CORE PRINCIPLE in interpersonal neurobiology. (The #7 morality class overviews mindsight in greatest detail.) Insight is about seeing inside my mind, empathy is about seeing inside your mind and morality is about seeing inside our mind–together these are at the heart of social and emotional intelligence.

5. vimeo.com/686851435 The wizard brain skill of insight and how it originates from attachment in childhood

This class explains how insight (seeing inside our own mind) originates from childhood where a caregiver gives you what is called “reflective function” in attachment research; (it is also called “mindsight” in interpersonal neurobiology–to see one’s own mind and other’s minds).
